“Empire” is the kind of drama that you can’t help but want to binge-watch. And I did that in about a week while travelling South-East Asia at the same time.

The story’s about Lucious Lyon, founder and CEO of the successful record label “Empire”, who has been diagnosed with ALS. He puts his 3 sons to the test so one would end up taking over the company when he dies.

Meanwhile, his ex wife and co-founder, Cookie, has been released from prison and wants to reclaim her rightful place in the company.

The music is mostly Hip-Hop and R&B but what makes it more impressive is that they’re all original songs which we only get to hear for the first time on the show. From the very first scene with Veronika Bozeman, I knew the music was going to be greatness in itself.

But the one and only person I keep watching the show for is Taraji P. Henson’s character: Mrs. Cookie Lyon. There are quotes in practically all episodes that have become legend.

If Cookie were to be real, I’d make her my 2nd life master right after Buddha.

Let’s hope the writers can keep up in season 2 with the soap-opera drama and more importantly, quotes from the mama Lyon herself: Cookie. But at least with Timbaland as the music producer, I won’t doubt the musical greatness behind the show.
